Fiery crash at end of pursuit leaves 2 dead at Travis Air Force Base, officials say

California (KCRA) — Two people died Tuesday morning after a pursuit involving Bay Area law enforcement ended in a fiery crash at Travis Air Force Base, officials said Tuesday.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office said its night shift patrol deputies tried to pull a driver over on Highway 12 just east of Highway 29 around 12:04 a.m. The vehicle drove off, prompting a chase.
At 12:17 a.m., the sheriff’s office said the vehicle crashed at Travis AFB’s visitor parking lot, immediately being engulfed in flames. Deputies tried putting out the fire with fire extinguishers, but they were unsuccessful.
At 12:25 a.m., the sheriff’s office said Travis AFB arrived at the scene, declaring both the driver and his passenger dead at the scene.
Details were not released on why the vehicle was pulled over. The identities of the driver and passenger are also not known.
KCRA 3’s Melanie Wingo has been at the scene for hours. She observed caution tape and gurneys where the crash happened.
As of 9:55 a.m., crews were seen clearing debris, and the vehicle involved in the crash had yet to be cleared.
The Fairfield Police Department said at 1:39 p.m. that the main gate has been reopened.
