CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania (WTAE) — A couple went viral after they got engaged in front of Pittsburgh Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby back in January of this year.

In a post by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, they said: “he asked, she said yes, and Sid approved,” referring to the couple, Mathieu and Sandra.

The organization said in an article linked to the post that the couple traveled to Cranberry to watch the Penguins practice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in January.

“I knew that her favorite player was Sidney Crosby, and she didn’t know that I was going to propose,” Mathieu said to the Penguins organization. “Then, Sidney Crosby passed by, and she wanted to take a picture with him while I was getting ready. She didn’t know what I was doing, but I knew that it was happening right now.”

Sandra’s son recorded the moment as Mathieu got down on one knee, and as Crosby stopped in front of them, giving them a thumbs-up from the driver’s seat of his vehicle.

Sandra, who the organization said is a huge Penguins fan, did not expect the reaction from Crosby but said it made one of the best days of her life more memorable.
