Bend City Council weighs gun restrictions in city buildings

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Bend City Council is meeting tonight to discuss, among agenda items, proposed ordinance could change where firearms are allowed in Bend. The city council is set to decide whether to ban guns inside certain city-owned buildings — a proposal made possible under Oregon’s Senate Bill 243, passed last year.
Supporters say it’s about enhancing safety in public spaces, while critics argue it infringes on Second Amendment rights.
The ordinance would apply to locations such as city hall, libraries, and community centers, if approved. Councilors are expected to take public comment before making their decision.
