Weather Alert Day: Accumulating snow possible Monday, slick roads for the evening commute
Jessica Hafner
The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for the potential of accumulating snow that could cause roads to be slick Monday afternoon through Monday evening.

A wave of low pressure will plunge out of the Plains in our direction Sunday night into Monday, but dry air will be in place as cold temperatures are locked in following Saturday’s cold front.

Snow will be present aloft at the onset as it moves into western Missouri by morning, but it will have to overcome dry air before making it to the ground. We expect saturation to begin by around midday, with snow filling in and slowly working east throughout the afternoon and evening.
We are closely monitoring for two bands of potentially higher snowfall rates as better forcing will be possible in these zones. This is where very localized snowfall totals of 3″+ will be possible. Those two zones are highlighted on the map below, the afternoon band could bring 2-4″ along the Highway 24 corridor, with another zone potentially setting up between Highway 54 and I-44 after the evening rush, between 8-9:00 p.m.

Snow looks to exit to the east before midnight, but roads that are not treated will be slick overnight into Tuesday morning as temperatures will remain below freezing in the upper teens.
