UPDATE (Nov. 6, 2026): The New Mexico Police Department said on Thursday at 4:29 p.m., Deming Police Department officers went to 220 Spruce St. after reports of shots fired.

An officer saw the suspect, 28-year-old Jaime Aguilar, who allegedly ignored officer’s commands to stop during a foot chase, NMSP said.

No officers were injured during the shooting. The New Mexico State Investigations Bureau will continue investigating the incident.

NMSP said it won’t identify the officer involved in the shooting.

NMSP sent the following statement to ABC-7:

“New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the district attorney for review.

The New Mexico State Police act solely as a factfinder in officer-involved shootings and do not determine whether an officer’s actions were justified. That decision rests with the district attorney’s office.”
