MILWAUKEE (WISN) — Honoring the bravery and effort to go beyond the call of duty, the Milwaukee Police Department recognized dozens of officers and several citizens Wednesday night at their semi-annual Merit Award Ceremony.
Among the honorees was the unit that arrested Tremaine Jones, the man who ambushed and fatally shot 32-year-old MPD officer Kendall Corder and injured his partner, Christopher McCray, in June 2025.
Twenty-four officers and detectives from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area and Special Investigations Unit were awarded. MPD said the group immediately mobilized after the news of the shooting had spread through the department.
Within hours, Jones had been arrested. He was later convicted for the killing.
On Wednesday, the group was awarded the Unit Service Award for their role in helping get justice for their fallen brother.
Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said the Merit Award Ceremony is a chance to honor the extraordinary bravery of officers.
“We highlight the bravery, the dedication, the service and the professionalism of our members who went above and beyond the call of duty,” Norman said.
