PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) – Republican incumbent Jeff Hurd and Democrat challenger Dwayne Romero are separated by just .4 percentage points (about 1000 votes), with 19 percent of the vote left to be counted.

Hurd holds a narrow 48.6% to 48.2% lead as of 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. There are still nearly 60,000 uncounted votes. Both candidates need very slim, marginal victories in the final ballot counts to win the race.

It’s the closest remaining race in Southern Colorado, though Democrat challenger Eileen Laubacher currently leads Republican incumbent Lauren Boebert by 5,000 votes in Colorado District 4, typically the biggest republican stronghold in the state.

In Colorado District 5 (El Paso County), Democratic challenger Jessica Killin holds a healthy 15,000-vote lead over Republican incumbent Jeff Crank with 77% of the vote counted. Crank will need to win about 63% of the remaining votes to win reelection. District 5 has never gone to a Democrat.
