OVERLAND PARK, Kansas (KMBC) — Jesse Alexander literally went the extra mile and then some to vote Tuesday.

Early Tuesday morning, Alexander flew in from Atlanta to Kansas City to vote at Antioch Church in Overland Park.

It wasn’t part of her original plan.

Alexander said she had requested an absentee ballot from the Johnson County Election Office.

But when it never arrived in the mail, she was told her only option was to vote in person.

Getting back to Kansas City also proved challenging.

Alexander’s flight was scheduled to leave Atlanta at 12:30 a.m. Eastern time.

She was scheduled to arrive in Kansas City at 1:21 a.m.

But weather delayed her flight.

Alexander arrived in Kansas City more than an hour late at 2:29 a.m.

“I feel like it’s something worth doing, and the thought of not being able to vote, not being able to exercise my right to do so, bothered me enough that I thought, let’s see. Let’s see what I can do. Let’s see what flights I can find,” she said. “It felt good. I’m glad I did it. I was starting to doubt myself as my flights were delayed and it was, you know, one or two in the morning. But I’m glad I did it.”

Alexander is temporarily living in Atlanta to work on a project for her company.

She flew back to Atlanta on Tuesday night.
