LYON COUNTY, Kansas (KAKE) — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help finding a missing police service dog.

At 1 p.m. on Sunday, the service dog escaped from his kennel in Emporia. The sheriff’s office searched the immediate area, but did not locate the dog. The last sighting, according to the sheriff’s office, was at 12th Ave. and Rural Street.

“For public safety, DO NOT APPROACH, CHASE, CALL OUT TO, OR ATTEMPT TO CAPTURE THE DOG,” the sheriff’s office wrote. “As a trained police service dog, the animal should only be handled by authorized personnel.”

Anyone who sees the dog is asked to keep a safe distance, note the location and direction of travel and contact the sheriff’s office at 620-343-4201. Photos and videos are encouraged.

“Every sighting could make a difference in safely recovering this valuable working partner. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and assistance in helping bring the dog home safely.”
