FORT SMITH, Arkansas (KHBS) — Former Miss America and Fort Smith native Madison Marsh Morris has given so much to the city she grew up in, most notably her pancreatic cancer fundraiser Whitney’s Race, which is named after her mother who died from the disease.

Since then, she’s worked to not only help people with costs for early detection and care but also transport to places where the best care can be given.

And now, Fort Smith is giving something back to her.

They’re naming a street after her Friday.

40/29 News asked her about it.

“I always tell people to remind themselves where you came from and what you grew from because, you know, without Fort Smith, all the life lessons I’ve had, not only as a kid, getting to go to Southside, what it was like losing my mom at such a young age and seeing how my entire town has continued to rally behind our family,” Marsh Morris said.

The street naming ceremony is Friday at 430 p.m. at South 41st and Gary, near Southside High School.

The public is invited to attend.

Also of note, the 7th annual Whitney’s Race fundraiser and festival is happening Saturday in the Bakery District.
