LYNNFIELD, Massachusetts (WCVB) — A tractor-trailer rollover caused a significant mess Wednesday afternoon in Lynnfield, Massachusetts.

Sky5 flew over the scene along Salem Street and saw a broken utility pole, with part of the pole left dangling from the wires. Scrap metal and debris from the overturned truck was spilled across a front lawn.

“The truck looked like it hit the tree and rolled over, and the powerlines spanned, and I saw some sparks and smoke,” a witness said. “He just flipped over the pole.”

The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. According to police, the driver was able to climb out of the wreck on his own.

Police said the driver was taken to an area hospital while the crash remains under investigation.

The roadway was closed to traffic for hours as crews worked to flip the truck upright, and power was out in the area. Power was restored Wednesday night.

Steve Rizzo could see the wreck from his front porch.

“When they lifted it, it was kind of shocking how much debris there was,” he said.

Rizzo watched as crews cleaned up the mess, and said there’s a sharp turn in the road right where the crash happened.

“And I think a lot of drivers that are not familiar with it, may underestimate how sharp the turn is,” Rizzo said. “So I think speed was probably a factor here.”

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.
