COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
EDITOR’S NOTE: An incorrect reference to the crash as fatal has been removed.
The investigation into a head-on collision that left two drivers in critical condition on Wednesday has now been referred to the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office for one of the drivers involved.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Buchanan said the office will review the evidence submitted by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office to decide charges.
Boone County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Brian Leer said Wednesday that the crash involved a man and a woman. At 8:50 p.m., Leer said that both were in serious condition.
Leer said the man drove eastbound at high speed and crossed the center line, hitting the other vehicle head-on. He said the male driver did not have a driver’s license.
The crash was reported on East St. Charles Road near Demaret Drive around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
ABC 17 spoke with residents in the area who say speeding on that road is a regular occurrence and drivers tend to speed on the straight parts of the road, forgetting to slow down on the turn.
The names of those involved have not been released yet.
