Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: U.S. stocks rose Monday as Anthropic’s public IPO filing added momentum to the artificial intelligence trade. The S&P 500 gained 0.7%, the Nasdaq climbed 0.8% and the Dow rose 0.3%. Chip stocks were among the beneficiaries of renewed AI enthusiasm.

Anthropic, the company behind Claude, reported first-half revenue of $16.3 billion and a net loss of $80.7 billion. The loss included a $72.4 billion accounting charge related to financing agreements. The offering could value the company at around $2 trillion, according to reports, but its final valuation and offering terms have not been announced.

The filing also highlighted risks from increasingly advanced AI, including the possibility that development could outpace the company’s ability to evaluate and safeguard its models.

Oil prices fell Monday as diplomatic efforts to ease Middle East tensions tempered concerns about supply disruptions. Brent crude futures settled down 0.8% at $115.81 a barrel, while U.S. WTI fell 1.46% to $101.76.
