PINK, Oklahoma (KOCO) — The remains of Troy Tolton, a 47-year-old Pottawatomie County man reported missing in August, were found buried near the town of Pink, and his fiancée and her sister have been arrested in connection with the case.
Investigators located Tolton’s remains on a property near Little River Road and Yellow Brick Road.
“They were all living together at the residence south of Tecumseh, and when he went missing, that was the last place he was seen by those individuals,” said Dakota Black, a lieutenant with the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office.
Tolton was last seen on July 31, the day he was supposed to travel to the Oklahoma City area to help someone move and pick up a trailer. However, he never arrived at either location.
On Aug. 15, Oklahoma City police found his vehicle abandoned at the intersection of 104th and Peebly Road.
On Tuesday, investigators announced the arrests of Tolton’s fiancée and her sister after his remains were discovered on the property where they all lived. The sheriff’s office noted inconsistencies in the women’s accounts.
“That was concerning in of itself, that the individuals living with him did not report him missing,” Black said. “It was one of Troy’s family members, and again, that was two weeks after he went missing.”
Tolton was officially reported missing on Aug. 13. A key piece of evidence in the investigation was a rented excavator.
Authorities said Tolton’s fiancée had rented the equipment on July 31, the last day he was seen, and returned it to the Oklahoma City area on Aug. 3.
“When we went out to the property, we were able to find tracks and ultimately where he was located,” Black said.
The sheriff’s office said more charges could be possible, but they are awaiting further information.
“We have preliminary findings from the medical examiner’s office, but we don’t have definitives yet. We don’t have an official report,” Black said.
Tolton’s fiancée and her sister have not yet been formally charged. KOCO is not naming them until those charges are filed.
