Props 436 and 437: What to know ahead of November
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – The City of Yuma will have two propositions for residents to vote on for the November 3 election.
Proposition 436, according to the City, will ask voters to “to consider a $30 million Permanent Base Adjustment to the expenditure base used to calculate the City’s Annual Expenditure Limitation.”
In addition, Prop 436 will allow the City “to spend revenues it already collects and lawfully receives to support municipal services, programs, and infrastructure.”
However, Prop 436 will not “create a new tax, increase existing tax rates, or generate new revenue,” the City explained.
Meanwhile, the City said Prop 437 will “amend Article IV, Section 6 of the City Charter to change how the number of signatures required on nomination petitions for City elected office is calculated.”
“The amendment would base the required number of signatures on the number of valid ballots cast in the preceding primary municipal election rather than the preceding general municipal election,” the City added.
Reporter Lauren Duffel is live to share more details about the two propositions.
