October 19, 2026 (Houston Style Magazine) — A career that began at the member-service counter has reached the executive suite—and for Jason Schneider, the journey is a distinctly Texas success story.

TDECU, Houston’s largest credit union, announced October 15 that Schneider has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer, elevating a leader who started more than two decades ago as a part-time member service representative while studying at the University of Houston.

The Angleton native’s promotion is more than a change in title. It is a homegrown example of what happens when an institution invests in talent, encourages professional growth and remembers the people who helped build it.

Schneider knows that story personally. His grandfather worked at Dow and was among TDECU’s earliest members, a family connection that stretches back to the credit union’s roots in Brazoria County.

And those roots are worth celebrating. In 1955, Dow employees in Lake Jackson pooled resources to help a coworker purchase a refrigerator. That modest act of neighborly assistance—an original $35 loan—grew into a financial cooperative now serving more than 403,000 members and managing over $5 billion in assets. Talk about a little goodwill earning compound interest!

Over seven decades, TDECU has expanded across Texas while holding to its founding philosophy: people helping people. Today, the institution operates more than 30 member centers and offers everything from everyday banking and home financing to business services and digital financial tools.

Its TDECU Cares Foundation, launched in 2023, extends that commitment through charitable grants, student scholarships and financial wellness initiatives in local communities.

Schneider has experienced much of that evolution from the inside. He advanced through TDECU’s branch network and leadership ranks, ultimately serving as chief financial officer, where he helped reinforce financial strategy and support the organization’s long-term growth. As chief operating officer, he will oversee business operations and help translate TDECU’s ambitions into service for its expanding membership.

“Jason’s career reflects the promise and opportunity TDECU strives to create,” said President and CEO Isaac Johnson, emphasizing Schneider’s firsthand understanding of its members, culture and mission.

His academic credentials complement that practical experience: a business administration degree from the University of Houston’s C. T. Bauer College of Business; an MBA in finance from the University of Houston–Clear Lake; executive financial leadership training at Stanford University; and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He is also active in CFA Society Houston and has served on industry and community boards.

“I am honored to serve as executive vice president and chief operating officer,” Schneider said, crediting the mentors, colleagues and members who supported his professional development.

For Houston and the surrounding Gulf Coast, his ascent offers an encouraging reminder: meaningful leadership does not always arrive from somewhere else. Sometimes it grows right here, nurtured by local education, steadfast mentors and an organization willing to recognize potential.

From a $35 helping hand to a multibillion-dollar institution, TDECU’s story has always been about opportunity. Schneider’s next chapter suggests that tradition remains very much in business. Learn more: tdecu.org
