MONTEREY, California (KSBW) — PGA Tour veteran and Monterey native Bobby Clampett is supporting a new initiative to teach young golfers about the game.
Clampett, who turned professional in 1980, finished in the top five in seven PGA Tour events over the course of 88 tournaments. He said his goal is to provide young golfers with the best foundation possible to pursue professional careers, as he did.
“Good golfers are hard to find. Good golfers have a high success rate in how they do in society with their jobs. Some of these kids will hopefully get scholarships to play for college golf teams or play pros down the road. But even moreso they’ll integrate in society and if they’re known as a good golfer it’ll help them,” Clampett said.
First Tee, the organization behind the initiative, serves 13,000 young golfers each year.
