Pettis County Commission places moratorium on data centers
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Pettis County Commission on Thursday passed a temporary moratorium on data center development in the county, according to a Friday press release from the commission.
A timeline for the moratorium was not listed in the release, but it states it will be in effect “until an economic development study, an environmental impact study, or both, as determined necessary by the Commission, have been completed and the Commission has had a reasonable opportunity to review the findings and consider recommendations.”
Covered projects for this moratorium include “buildings, facilities or premises whose primary use is for economic activities and that involve at least 30 acres of unincorporated county land and/or a value of at least $5 million,” the release says.
Pettis County joins other Missouri communities who have created moratoriums on data centers, including Columbia and Camdenton.
