District 23 candidate Emilia Cortez talks cost of living and healthcare

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – Emilia Cortez is running for the Arizona House of Representatives in District 23, saying she wants to address concerns about the cost of living and access to healthcare.

Cortez said her experience working for the Quechan Tribe as an economic development specialist, along with her years serving on local boards, has prepared her to represent the community.

As she visits voters across the district, Cortez said she’s hearing from retirees worried about losing health insurance and families struggling to afford housing.

She also said rent can cost as much as a mortgage, making it harder for working families to save for a home.

If elected, Cortez said working with lawmakers from both parties will be a priority.
