CHICAGO, Illiinois (WLKY) — There were plenty of triumphs at the Chicago Marathon on Sunday, and that included a Louisville teen who was paralyzed less than a year ago.

Wyatt Anderson, a senior at St. X High School, was one of 55,000 runners who laced up at the start line for the World Major, but his journey there wasn’t straightforward.

Anderson was playing basketball with his friends last November when he fell headfirst into a wall, fracturing his spine. He had to have surgery to fuse his spine, and he slowly regained movement over weeks of physical therapy.

He completed the Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon in April, but he had his sights set on a bigger goal—the Chicago Marathon.

And this past Sunday, Anderson crossed the finish line in under four hours, finishing in 3:56:28. He completed the race alongside his brother.

The two also raised more than $22,000 for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which supports spinal cord injury research.
