SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA) – A passport fair is coming to Somerton later this month, giving residents a chance to apply for a U.S. passport with help from federal officials.

Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) is hosting the event after seeing strong interest at a similar fair in Tucson.

The passport fair will be held Tuesday, October 27, at Somerton City Hall, located at 143 N. State Avenue, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Rep. Grijalva said her office has already received about 120 appointment sign-ups.

She said having important documents ready can help people feel more prepared amid immigration enforcement concerns and make international travel easier.

“One of them is having at the ready documentation, which is unfortunately, being [a] border district, we’re seeing a lot more attention from Border Patrol than I think we have had in the past. So having that is a level of security, but also being able to travel internationally without that kind of angst about it…making sure that we have all the documentation we need is important,” Grijalva said.

Residents are encouraged to schedule an appointment and check which documents they need to bring.
