Jefferson City man accused of running over woman during argument
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Jefferson City man was charged on Thursday in Cole County after authorities claim he ran over a woman’s leg with his car.
Matthew Hope, 35, is charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond. He waived his arraignment, pleaded not guilty and applied for a public defender on Friday. A bond hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The probable cause statement says police were called at 11:56 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a woman being ran over with a car. When police arrived, the victim was laying on her side and injuries were seen on her leg, the office wrote.
The woman allegedly told police that Hope ran her over with a red Chrysler 300 as she was trying to get her purse out of the vehicle after an argument, the statement says. The incident occurred in a driveway, the report says. The victim was checked out at an emergency room and reportedly did not have any broken bones, the statement says.
Hope was arrested during a traffic stop about half an hour later, the report says. The victim’s purse was still in the vehicle when Hope was arrested.
