Historic traditions meet modern mining at Colorado’s last active gold mine

CRIPPLE CREEK, Colo. (KRDO) – Like your KRDO13 crews, the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine is a 24-hour operation.
Wednesday morning, their work crossed paths hours before the sun, live from Colorado’s last large-scale gold mining operation.
“I think we all have the yellow Tonka trucks, the little loaders in your sandbox, so this is kind of like big boys and big toys,” mine general manager Lowe Billingsley said.
The mine is far from exclusive, but tour season is almost over. For the next three weeks leading up to Halloween, people can book tours at the only site that’s stood the test of time since the Colorado Gold Rush. You can find a tour link here.
