Crook County Demolition Derby coming to Prineville October 17th

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) — Demolition derby fans will have a new event to check out this month as the inaugural Crook County Demolition Derby comes to the Crook County Fairgrounds on October 17.

The event is being organized by Prineville-based Redneck Entertainment Promotions, founded by local demolition derby driver Brian Winters.

Winters grew up watching his father, brothers and uncles compete in demolition derbies across Oregon during the 1990s and 2000s. His father also competed in a derby in Prineville.

After demolition derbies eventually faded out in Crook County, Winters decided to bring the sport back to the community.

The derby will feature full-size and compact chain-and-bang classes, with limited modifications to the vehicles. Drivers will compete in rounds of crashes, with the last car running winning.

Heat winners will receive cash prizes starting at $1,000, with the overall prize pool increasing based on the number of entrants.

Winters said he wants drivers to focus on putting on an exciting show for the crowd.

“I don’t want to see drivers dancing around each other,” Winters said. “I want them to put on a show.”

The event will also include a swap meet, small-vehicle barrel racing and a special demolition derby for children ages 4 to 6.

Drivers can register up to one hour before the derby begins. Organizers say some drivers are already planning to travel from as far away as Utah to compete.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. on October 17, with competitions beginning at 5 p.m. at the Crook County Fairgrounds.
