COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
EDITOR’S NOTE: A quote has now been correctly attributed to Boone County Assistant Prosecutor Mel Buchanan.
Three freshman Mizzou football players were arrested Monday on suspicion of first-degree harassment, a felony.
Defensive back Ahmod Billins, cornerback Trashundon Neal and wide receiver Karsten Fiene were arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of first-degree harassment, according to online Boone County arrest records. The Columbia Police Department did not disclose where they were arrested on what they’re accused of.
Each of the men posted bond, according to jail records.
Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz said during his weekly news conference Tuesday that the athletic department is investigating what happened and will work within established protocols.
“I’m aware of the situation involving our three freshmen,” Drinkwitz said. “I’m going to allow the legal process to play out. I’m not going to rush to judgment; I’m going to let the fact-finding play out before we make a decision.”
Boone County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Mel Buchanan said her office has received criminal referrals from police for each man. The prosecutor assigned to the case will make a decision on charges before the bond return date of Oct. 19.
Billins is from Abbeville, Alabama, while Neal and Fiene are from the Kansas City area.
