SANTA CRUZ, California (KSBW) — A woman who was swept into the ocean while fishing off Panther Beach died Wednesday evening, California State Parks said.

The woman and a man, both in their 30s, were pulled from the ocean Tuesday after being swept off rocks. Neither person was a Santa Cruz County resident, State Parks said.

Rescue swimmers brought them to shore. It was not known how long they had been in the ocean. One person was transported by Stanford Life Flight, while the other was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

When KSBW 8 contacted the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner, the office said it had no record of a death from Panther Beach on that date or this week.

State Parks said lifeguards, CAL FIRE, California State Parks, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Cruz Fire and the U.S. Coast Guard responded.
