Passing mountain bikers jump in to help rescue horse stuck in deep mud

    DEERFIELD, New Hampshire (WMUR) — A horse has been rescued after getting stuck in deep mud in Bear Brook State Park near Beaver Pond Deerfield.

A group of passing mountain bikers say they jumped in to help rescue the horse, named Mac, shortly after he began to sink into the mud. They say they helped keep his head above the muck and worked to push him out.

At least three fire departments and nearby animal groups, including the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, assisted in the rescue.

Multiple agencies and several mountain bikers assisted in the rescue.

Individuals on the scene told News 9 the horse was freed from the mud with specialized equipment and was led out of the woods. Crews were on the scene for hours.
