BREAKING NEWS: A 13-year-old boy faces critical injuries after e-motorcycle accident
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — A 13-year-old boy from Bend suffered critical injuries Friday evening after the e-motorcycle he was riding collided with a minivan. The crash occurred at approximately 7:58 p.m. at the intersection of NE Neff Road and 27th Street.
According to Bend Police, a white Dodge minivan was traveling northbound on 27th Street and attempted to turn left onto westbound Neff Road. The driver turned into the path of the southbound Surron e-motorcycle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, throwing the teenager from the vehicle.
Police believe the 13-year-old rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Bend Police noted that the Surron e-motorcycle is not street legal and is capable of reaching speeds greater than 50 mph.
The driver of the Dodge minivan, identified as a 51-year-old Bend man, remained at the scene following the crash. He cooperated with law enforcement officers and was not issued a citation.
Members of the Bend Police crash reconstruction team were called to investigate the scene. Parts of the intersection at NE Neff Road and 27th Street were closed while investigators examined the area.
