Gutierrez Ave replaces Cesar Chavez Ave in Pocatello

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI)- The Pocatello City Council voted unanimously Thursday night to rename a stretch of 8th Street on the Idaho State University campus. The street, previously known as Cesar Chavez Avenue, will now be called Gutierrez Avenue.
The street is renamed in honor of Sergio Gutierrez, who became Idaho’s first Latino judge. Born in Mexico, Gutierrez migrated to the United States as a child.
The city announced in March that it would consider renaming the street. The decision followed a report from The New York Times linking civil rights leader Chavez to allegations of sexual abuse against women and girls over decades.
