MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (WDJT) — Breast cancer impacts hundreds of thousands of women and thousands of men each year.

Survivors, those still battling cancer, and supporters came together for the annual Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk at Henry Maier Festival Park.

“The energy is here is just so powerful and palpable,” said Liz Gabriel, a breast cancer survivor.

From above you could see thousands of people walking together in solidarity Sunday.

“These people are my sisters,” said Gabriel. “I’ve never met them before, but they’re like my sisters. These are the people that know. You don’t have to explain anything to them, they get it immediately, there’s an immediate bond.”

As you come closer to the event, you can hear stories of empowerment and resilience.

“They found a 2-inch tumor in my breast, and it turned my world upside down, but I’m on the other side of it now and obviously these people have changed my life,” said Gabriel.

Gabriel is one of the hundreds of breast cancer survivors who participated in the annual walk.

“It’s so powerful,” said Gabriel. “The type of cancer I had, I had HER2 positive breast cancer and 20 years ago that would have been a death sentence. The fact that we can raise money for research and improve the lives of women is unbelievable.

Together, the group raised more than half a million dollars towards the fight against breast cancer.

CBS 58 evening anchor Natalie Shepherd emceed the event, as around 5,000 people filled the grounds, spreading a message of hope.

“The walk means so much to so many,” said Nikki Panico, the executive director of Susan G. Komen Wisconsin. “We celebrate survivorship, we honor those still in the fight and we take a moment and pause to remember those that should be walking with us today.”

Reminding people that they are never alone in the fight.

‘I can get back to normalcy’: North Carolina man gets new home after Helene

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina (WLOS) — On Friday, Sept. 25, a Leicester man is spending his first night in a brand-new home after Helene destroyed his previous house, leaving him unsure where to turn.

Denny Fultz’s home was severely damaged when floodwater and debris came rushing down his driveway during the storm.

“All I could hear was roaring and rumbling and there was this water like a river coming straight down my driveway into my house,” Fultz said. “It knocked a bunch of trees down. I couldn’t get out.”

The destruction left Fultz facing an uncertain future.

“I was just thinking, ‘What am I going to do first, what am I going to do now?’” he said. “It was one of those shocking moments when you didn’t know where to start.”

Almost two years after Helene hit, Fultz has a new place to call home through Renew NC, a program designed to help people whose homes were severely damaged by Helene and could not be safely rebuilt or occupied.

Fultz said he learned about the program after seeing an advertisement on Facebook.

“I just so happened to look at my Facebook one day and there was an ad in there for Renew NC,” he said. “I went in, they told me everything I needed and the process was smooth.”

Then, Fultz welcomed North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein inside for a tour.

As Stein walked through the house, he admired the new space, including the large laundry room, closets and other features.

“This is just absolutely beautiful!” Stein said.

Fultz said moving into a new home means much more than just a roof over his head.

“They always say there’s nothing like home and now I can get back to normalcy,” he said. About 300 homes have been completed through the program so far, with more than 150 additional homes under construction, according to Stein.

As for Fultz, the next chapter is about enjoying the simple things.

“I’m hanging out on my back porch, playing my guitar,” he said.

ASHEVILLE, North Carolina (WLOS) — They may only stand a few feet tall, but Ladybug and Jolene made a big impression during a visit to CarePartners PACE in Asheville.

The two miniature therapy horses from the Free Rein Center for Therapeutic Riding and Education in Brevard visited the CarePartners PACE Day Center, where participants could pet and interact with the horses.

The visit was part of CarePartners PACE’s celebration of Healthy Aging Month and National PACE Month.

Participants also enjoyed music, games, snow cones and time together during the celebration.

The horses’ visit on Sept. 25 had a fitting soundtrack.

A provided video showed a participant singing Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” adding a little extra fun to the day.

CarePartners PACE says the event was meant to highlight the importance of staying active, socially connected and engaged in meaningful experiences as people age.

CarePartners Health Services is a member of Mission Health, an operating division of HCA Healthcare. PACE stands for Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly. The program helps older adults remain in their homes and communities while receiving coordinated medical care and other support. Services can include medical care, therapy, meals, transportation, social services and recreational activities, coordinated through the program.

For the participants who met Ladybug and Jolene, the visit offered an opportunity to get outside their usual routine, spend time together and enjoy some four-legged company.

RIVERSIDE, California (KCAL, KCBS) — Riverside police arrested the mother of an infant found abandoned next to an apartment complex dumpster last year after months of investigation.

Officers were originally called to the apartment building in the 3800 block of Jackson Street back on May 4, 2025, at around 2:30 p.m. for reports of an infant found by people walking near the complex, according to a news release from the Riverside Police Department.

“The baby was lying next to a dumpster, breathing, and crying, with the umbilical cord still attached,” the Riverside PD release said. “The infant had been left uncovered and exposed to the rain.”

The baby was taken to a nearby hospital for care, police said, noting that they believed it had only been delivered a few hours prior to when it was found.

Since then, investigators have worked to identify the child’s mother. They were ultimately able to identify her as 26-year-old resident Astrid Nohemi Lopez Ramos.

Police arrested Ramos last week, on September 17, on suspicion of child endangerment. She was booked in lieu of $35,000 bail, according to the Riverside PD release.

As their investigation continues, police asked anyone who knows more to contact Detective Jessica Iniguez at 951-353-7121 or Detective Jarid Zuetel at 951-826-8714.

“The Riverside Police Department would like to remind the community that California’s Safely Surrendered Baby Law was created to prevent newborn deaths resulting from unsafe abandonment,” police said in the news release. “Made permanent in 2006, this law allows a parent or legal guardian to safely surrender a baby within 72 hours of birth—no questions asked—to ensure the infant’s safety and wellbeing.”

Officers advised anyone looking for a fire station or hospital where they could safely surrender their child was urged to call 1-877-222-9723 or visit 211la.org/safely-surrender-baby.

Amendment 6 would enshrine initiative petition, referendum process in the Missouri Constitution

Alison Patton

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri voters will see Amendment 6 on the ballot this November, after the group Respect Missouri Voters fought legal battles to place it there. If approved, it reserves citizens’ right to initiative petitions and referendums in the Missouri Constitution.

Respect Missouri Voters collected signatures for Amendment 6, which started as an initiative petition, but Secretary of State Denny Hoskins rejected it in early August. He claimed the ballot title, which he approved, violated the single-subject rule. However, the Missouri Supreme Court decided it was sufficient.

Amendment 6 prohibits the legislature from changing laws passed by an initiative petition without approval by 80% of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The full ballot title listed on the Secretary of Stat’s website reads:

Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to:

expand the initiative and referendum petition process by making it a fundamental right; allow courts to revise ballot summaries through lawsuits; prohibit the legislature from weakening initiative or referendum powers; prohibit the legislature from changing or repealing laws enacted through the initiative process, or passing laws similar to those rejected by referendum, without approval from at least 80% of both chambers; and preserve existing majority vote and signature requirements for initiative and referendum petitions?

A vote ‘yes’ would approve the bullet points listed above, and a vote ‘no’ would reject them.

In August, voters overwhelmingly rejected Amendment 4, which would have made it harder to pass an initiative petition.

Colorado recalls marijuana vape company’s products sold at more than 400 stores

By Logan Smith

DENVER, Colorado (KCNC) — Colorado public health and marijuana regulation authorities issued on Friday a recall of marijuana vape devices believed to be contaminated with a volatile industrial solvent.

The Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR) and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) issued a joint health advisory requesting consumers who purchased Craft vape cartridges and disposable vapes to destroy the product or return them to the place of purchase.

The agencies stated those products were sold between March 27 and September 25 of this year at 405 stores in Colorado.

Anyone experiencing illness or adverse health effects after using the products are asked to seek medical attention immediately. They are also asked to report those effects and any treatment to the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division, a subagency of the DOR.

As of Friday, no users of the product had filed any such reports, according to the state agencies.

The particular vape devices were found to have been produced using an ingredient that contained methylene chloride, according to the state agencies. Methylene chloride, also known as Dichloromethane (DCM), is an industrial solvent typically used in adhesives, paint and coating products, pharmaceuticals, metal cleaning, chemical processing, and aerosols. According to a fact sheet from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, usually affects workers using products containing it. Short-term exposure can result in harm to the central nervous system, or neurotoxicity, per the EPA. Effects of longer periods of exposure (chronic) for workers includes liver toxicity, liver cancer, and lung cancer.

“Green Skunk,” “Hawaiian Sour,” “Mango Kush,” “Maui Wowie,” “Diesel Dawg” and “Ghost Haze” are some of the names of the reportedly contaminated batches.

Staycon LLC is responsible for the products sold under the Craft brand. Staycon was created in 2014 and is based in Greenwood Village.

Recreational marijuana was legalized in Colorado in 2012. The state’s voters approved the medical sale and use of it in 2000.
