Dozens of Black Angus beef ribs stolen from truck in South Philadelphia, police say

Philadelphia (KYW) — Police are investigating an overnight meat heist after thieves stole a shipment of beef from a tractor-trailer in South Philadelphia early Tuesday morning, police said.
Authorities said four masked men approached a 2026 Freightliner outside of Ritter Foods on South 3rd Street around 1:00 a.m. and cut the hinges from the rear door of the trailer.
The suspects then removed about half a pallet of Black Angus beef ribs and loaded the meat into a dark-colored Ford F-150, police said.
The suspects then fled south on the 3300 block of South 3rd Street in the Ford, accompanied by a Jeep, police said.
The theft is still under investigation.
It’s not the first time meat has been swiped from trailers parked around Philadelphia. In November of 2025, a large amount of frozen meat was stolen from a tractor trailer parked on Norcom and Red Lion roads, near Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
In July of 2025, more than 40 boxes of meat were stolen from a truck parked in the city’s Bustleton neighborhood while the driver was still inside.
In 2024, there were at least two incidents of seafood being stolen from trucks. In March, someone broke into a refrigerated truck and stole dozens of pounds of Alaskan salmon and Pacific cod. Then in September, pallets of crab meat worth an estimated $42,000 were snatched from a truck in South Philadelphia.
