Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: U.S. stocks rallied Monday as AI shares advanced and oil prices and Treasury yields declined. The Nasdaq climbed 2.3%, the S&P 500 gained 1.5% and the Dow rose 0.7%.
Meta jumped 11.4%, while chipmakers also advanced. AMD gained about 10%, bringing its market value above $1 trillion, and Intel rose about 12%.
The 10-year Treasury yield moved back below 5%. Oil prices also fell sharply, with U.S. crude settling below $96 a barrel and Brent near $100 as improving Middle East oil flows and prospects for renewed U.S.-Iran diplomacy eased supply concerns.
Today’s Focus: World leaders are gathering in New York for the U.N. General Assembly this week, with the Iran war, Russia’s war in Ukraine and AI safety among the issues being discussed.
Attention will then turn to President Trump’s Thursday meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington, where trade, tariffs, rare-earth supplies, AI and geopolitical tensions are expected to be on the agenda.
