UPDATE (8:43 PM): The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) has provided an update on the crash near the Yuma International Airport.

YCSO said the crash happened before noon Friday.

YCSO said a white 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driving westbound on Airport Loop when, for unknown reasons, it veered into the eastbound lane and sideswiped a red 2018 Ram 2500 before crashing head-on with a gray 2010 Honda Civic driving behind the Ram.

As a result, YCSO said the driver of the Civic suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries, and was taken to Onvida Health by the Yuma Fire Department “for further medical treatment.”

Meanwhile, YCSO said Rural Metro assessed the drivers of both the Silverado and Ram, and one of them was taken to Onvida Health for minor injuries.

While speed appears to be a factor in the crash, the investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information regarding the case, call YCSO at 928-783-4427, call 78-CRIME to remain anonymous, or visit YCSO’s website to submit an anonymous tip.
