A man has been charged after he allegedly fired a shot early Sunday near the Boone County Courthouse.

Lorenzo Estes, 33, of Jefferson City, was chargd on Friday with unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, two counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree assault and one count of misdemeanor illegally shooting a gun. He is being held at the Boone County Jail on a $25,000 bond. A court date has not been scheduled.

The probable cause statement says police were called to the corner of Eight and Walnut streets at 2:49 a.m. Sunday. That corner has been a hot topic of discussion between University of Missouri System President Mun Choi and local leaders in the past few months.

Police were called to a shots-fired call and Estes was allegedly seen on video pointing a gun at two people before firing a shot in the air, the statement says. He then allegedly picked up the shell casing, police wrote. Estes was recorded wearing the same clothing while talking to police earlier in the night, the officer wrote.
