INDIO, Calif. (KESQ)- A new education conference center is opening its doors in Indio, bringing conferences, student events and educator training closer to the Coachella Valley.

The Riverside County Office of Education is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house Wednesday for its new 33,000-square-foot Indio Administration Building and Conference Center.

County education officials say the new center is intended to make educational programs and events more accessible for students and educators in the desert. Each year, Coachella Valley students, teachers and school employees travel thousands of miles to attend trainings, competitions, meetings and conferences held more than 50 miles away in western Riverside County.

“This extraordinary new facility is an investment in the educational future of the entire region,” Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin Gomez said. “In addition to services for families, conferences, trainings, and student celebrations will bring together educators and community members.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony begins at 11 a.m.
