The Pacific Pride Foundation partnered with the zoo on the final day of Pride Week in the area.
The zoo decorated some of the most popular spots with rainbows.
Family members saw all kinds of animals including a Western Lowland Gorilla, Masai Giraffes, African Lions and meercats.
“It is very important to not only be seen, but visible, be the voices of the individuals that sometimes seem to be forgotten, especially in this political climate,” said Pacific Pride North County Services Manager John Marrero.
The Pacific Pride Foundation and the zoo set up education tables and gave out everything from flags to sunscreen and bubbles.
They are already talking about having another Pride Family Day next year.

Click here to follow the original article.DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) – On Sunday, Colorado Governor Jared Polis made a formal, comprehensive request to the federal government asking for help recovering after the ‘Apsen Acres’ and ‘Gold Mountain’ fires.
The request for aid is split into three categories: Individual Assistance, Public Assistance, and FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Funding.
“The Aspen Acres and Gold Mountain Fires destroyed over 300 homes, damaged critical infrastructure, and disrupted the livelihoods of Coloradans across three counties. These disasters clearly meet all the requirements for a Major Disaster Declaration, and the flooding and debris flows that followed have caused further destruction and claimed a life,” Gov. Polis said.
The governor’s office explains that individual assistance would go towards eligible homeowners for needs such as temporary housing, home repairs, and essential personal property. That even extends to crisis counseling, disaster care management, disaster unemployment assistance, and disaster legal services.
Public assistance would help state and local governments, public utilities, and certain nonprofit organizations cover eligible costs for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and repairs to roads, water systems, electric grids, and more, the governor’s office explains.
The FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Funding would support long-term solutions that reduce the impact of future disasters in an impacted community.
“Federal support is critical because the Aspen Acres Fire, followed by flash flooding from the massive burn scar, has created a continuous and compounding disaster far beyond what our local resources can sustain,” said Pueblo County Sheriff David Lucero.
“This Major Disaster Declaration is very important to the Custer citizens to recover some of our costs and put them into our own citizens’ wildfire mitigation, evacuation route enhancements, and good faith effort on our federal government’s responsibility to its citizens,” said Custer County Commissioner Lucas Epp.
The most recent reports from the incident command team estimate the ‘Aspen Acres’ Fire has burned more than 102,000 acres, plus more than 800 structures, including 324 homes.
Included in the damage, the governor’s office says the San Isabel Electric Association suffered millions of dollars in damages, along with the Pine Drive Water District, which only in the past month was able to turn water back on for its customers.
“We have been working to assess the damage correctly and by the book and ensure we get it right to do all we can to support our communities affected by these disasters,” Governor Polis said. “I ask the President to approve this request so Coloradans can access the support needed to recover and rebuild.”

Colorado Disaster Information Hub: Provides up-to-date information, county-by-county, on disasters currently being supported by the state and links to relevant resources for those impacted. 211 Colorado Wildfire Information & Resources: Colorado 211 provides information on active wildfire warnings currently in effect and lists statewide resources available to anyone impacted by any of the wildfires across Colorado. American Red Cross Open Shelters and Disaster Relief Services: The American Red Cross is offering assistance to Coloradans who have been forced to evacuate their homes and those whose access to essential services has been disrupted. Colorado Association of Realtors Foundation: Households displaced from their primary residence due to a Colorado summer 2026 wildfire can receive up to $1,000 in housing-related assistance, including mortgage and rental assistance. An investigation is underway by the Moberly Police Department into a Sunday night shooting.
A post to the departments social media said the incident occured in the 500 block of Morehead street.
A neighbor on scene told ABC 17 News crews that the shooting started allegedly as a disturbance between two women.
A reporter saw four ambulances on scene and multiple law enforcement agencies. One woman was scene being taken from the scene in an ambulance.
The post said the scene is secure. A preliminary investigation determined the shooting to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community, according to MPD.
ABC 17 News attempted to contact Moberly Police but was told no further information would be given at this time.

“It looks like a mini tornado came through here, hurricane, and took her tree down, roots and all, and fell onto my car. Totaled my car out,” Ruth Curtis tells KRDO13. Curtis says her neighbor’s tree was blown over by high winds and landed on her car.
“If you go up and down the street, you’ll see all kinds of damage. Roofs gone, skirting gone, debris lying all over the roads. It’s bad. Really bad,” Marlen Ott, one of Curtis’ neighbors, said.

The road where a fatal crash happened Saturday was supposed to have safety improvements installed years ago, but the project was delayed due to its cost and large scale.
A man died after hitting another car head on in the 2900 block of Forum Boulevard, near Wilsons Fitness Center Saturday.
Construction for the Forum Boulevard Improvement project is now set to begin in the summer of 2027, but it was first proposed in August of 2015. According to a city memo, the project is estimated to cost $12,300,000.
The project will make the road a 4-lane section to both the north and south lanes, with a potential 5-lane for turns. It will include construction of a new bridge over the Hinksons Creek.
Two roundabouts will be added at Katy Lane and Woodrail/Crestwood. Medians will be added to locations of the roads that experience higher accident rates. Improved bike lanes and sidewalks. And an expansion of the pedestrian tunnel on the MKT trail to accommodate the road construction.
A main point of the project is the additions of medians that will make the Wilsons Fitness Center exit a right turn only.
“Wilson’s has always been a difficult to come out and make a left,” Former Ward 5 councilmember Don Waterman said. “In fact, the design that I last saw, it was actually going to be a right only out of Wilson’s and right in only.”
One of Wilson’s members, Dylan Carter, told ABC that he sees residents treat Forum Road like a highway instead of a residential area.
Carter said that he remembered when the road had fewer businesses, and it was fine, but with the addition of all the nearby businesses, there isn’t enough room on the road for the traffic now.
Waterman said that since the project was proposed, he has supported it because of how much it will benefit the community.
He said that Columbia only had four large roads that run north and south, including Highway 63, Forum Boulevard, Providence Road, and Scott Boulevard. Waterman added that, just like the I-70 Improvement Project underway, the road closures during the construction will be a burden, but worth it in the end.
“Right now, Forum is the only one that isn’t four lanes, two each way. So I think it’s something that’s that’s needed,” Waterman said. “It’s going to be an inconvenience. But when it’s done, I think it’ll benefit the community as a whole.”
The project will also benefit the bikers and pedestrians who travel on the road, according to Waterman.
“There’s a lot of joggers along that stretch of road as well,” said Waterman. “I think the plans are there to benefit them as well. So I just as a whole, I think it’s a benefit to the community and that’s why I supported it.”
Current Ward 5 councilmember Christina Hartman did not respond for comment.

The survey says the average retail price of regular grade gasoline dropped three cents in the past two weeks to $4.15 a gallon.
However, oil prices are rising, jumping nearly $9.00 a barrel during the past two weeks.
As a result, The Lundberg Survey says gas prices are likely to follow oil prices upward, perhaps a dime or more very soon.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)– An 18-year-old man is facing felony charges after a vehicle struck and killed a motorcyclist Sunday morning in Idaho Falls in a hit-and-run.
At about 10:31 a.m. Aug. 23, Idaho Falls Police and Idaho Falls Fire & EMS responded to the intersection of East Anderson Street and North Holmes Avenue for a reported vehicle and motorcycle crash.
Police say the motorcyclist was stopped at a red light on Holmes Avenue when the vehicle struck him and continued through the intersection before leaving the scene.
Witnesses told dispatchers the motorcyclist was injured and that the driver of the other vehicle had left the scene.
When officers and EMS arrived, they found an adult male who had been riding the motorcycle. A witness was providing help before EMS took over medical care.
The victim was then transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Daniel Hartman, was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on felony charges of vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
Police have not released the victim’s name. Immediate next-of-kin notifications have been made, but additional notifications are still being completed.

According to the Payette County Sheriff’s Office, 7-year-old Izabella Bond was abducted Saturday evening in Payette, Idaho, in the area of Railroad Lane.
Deputies identified the girl’s abductor as Amber Farson following her disappearance. The alert was broadcast statewide after police determined the two could potentially be traveling together on foot or in an unknown vehicle, triggering an immediate search across the area.
Police located Izabella a short time later, bringing the late-night search to a successful end. “Thank You All For Your Cooperation,” PCSO posted in an update to its original post.

RIGBY, Idaho (KIFI) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting Sunday afternoon in Rigby.
According to Rigby Police Chief Allen Fullmer, officers responded to reports of shots involving two men just after noon along Ashlyn Way.
Chief Fullmer said two men were involved in the incident. One man was killed at the scene.
“He was treated here at the scene, but was pronounced deceased,” Fullmer said.
The second man fled the area but was later taken into custody after returning to Rigby, along the west side of town, without incident. He is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail. “This is an isolated incident. The suspect is in custody,” Fullmer emphasized.
The investigation remains ongoing by Rigby Police, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Rexburg Police Department, and Idaho State Police.
Multiple agencies are assisting with the ongoing investigation, including the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Rexburg Police Department, and the Idaho State Police (ISP).
“We’ve secured the scene,” Fullmer said. “Crime scene lab technicians from the Idaho State Police are processing the area, and detectives from the Rexburg Police Department are assisting with suspect interviews.”
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victim or the suspect.
