POWER COUNTY (KIFI) – A fast-growing wildfire is burning in eastern Cassia County, southwest of American Falls, prompting evacuations and warnings for people in the area.

The North Heglar Fire is currently estimated at 700 acres. The fire originated in Cassia County but has moved toward Power County, with Power County Emergency Management reporting that the fire has jumped the mountain.

Evacuations are underway in Rockland, specifically the area between Houtz Canyon and Sheep Canyon.

Fire officials have also requested evacuations from recreational areas east of Heglar Canyon.

Anyone camping in the affected area is being told to leave immediately.

Officials are also asking the public to stay away from the fire area to allow firefighters and emergency personnel to work safely.
