Two injured in crash on Highway 111 in Calexico

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA) – A crash on Highway 111 in Calexico sent two people to the hospital Friday morning. The crash involved two vehicles and a Caltrans tractor.
The Calexico Police Department (CPD) said one of the vehicles caught fire, bringing the Calexico Fire Department to the scene, along with the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans crews.
CPD also said one of the drivers may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, leading to the crash.
“It was reported that the driver of party one, which is the first rider to collide, fell asleep at the wheel,” said Lt. Miguel Carbajal with CPD.
The investigation is ongoing.
