High school senior drowns in Upstate lake

    ANDERSON COUNTY, South Carolina (WYFF) — The Anderson County Coroner’s Office said a teenager drowned Monday night at Lake Hartwell.

According to the coroner, authorities were called just after 6 p.m. to the River Forks Boat Ramp in Townville.

First responders said at the scene they were told a teen went under and did not resurface.

The coroner said the body of Abraham Vasquez, 17, was recovered just before 7:30 p.m.

The preliminary investigation showed Vasquez was swimming from one shoreline to another when he apparently became exhausted and went underwater, the coroner said.

The cause of death was ruled as freshwater drowning by the coroner’s office.
