Ojai Raptor Center Announces the Death of Jackie The Bald Eagle
OJAI, Calif. (KEYT) – Its a sad day for the Friends of Big Bear Valley, as Jackie the bald eagle has died.
Over the last three weeks, Jackie had been receiving care and treatment at the Ojai Raptor Center after she was attacked by two juvenile bald eagles back in July. The center had been providing updates on the bird’s condition, including her battle with anemia and another unknown illness.
Despite around the clock care, the center announced Jackie’s death early Monday morning.
“Over the past several days, her condition continued to deteriorate despite intensive treatment and the combined efforts of our veterinary team and consulting specialists. She remained critically ill, receiving oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and around-the-clock monitoring in our intensive care unit.”
Referred to by the center as Patient 26-519, Jackie became one of Big Bear Valley’s most famous residents – birthing and nursing multiple eaglets over the years with her partner Shadow.
Jackie’s remains have been transferred into the care of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, according to the Ojai Raptor Center.
