Kentucky teacher arrested for grooming minor weeks after new law goes into effect

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (WLKY) — A Kentucky middle school teacher has been arrested after investigators said she had an inappropriate relationship with one of her students.
On Friday, the Graves County Sheriff’s Department arrested Sadie Flores, 25, and charged her with grooming a minor.
The charge is a Class D felony under a Kentucky law that took effect last month.
According to Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden, the allegation was first reported to the Graves County School District.
School officials then immediately contacted the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, prompting an investigation.
Sheriff’s detectives said the investigation included the seizure of electronic records, interviews and other means.
Flores was interviewed Friday afternoon before being arrested.
She was initially taken to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center before being transported to a detention center outside the county.
In a statement, Graves County Schools Superintendent Matt Madding said, “We take any allegation involving the safety of a child or the professional conduct of an employee extremely seriously and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and the appropriate authorities.”
Madding added that the district is limited in what it can publicly discuss because the matter involves an ongoing investigation.
