ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Alabama (WVTM) — A St. Clair County woman said she was randomly attacked with a knife while sitting in her car Monday afternoon, and now investigators are searching for the attacker.
The young mother, Alyssa Carroll, said the attack came out of nowhere. The 24-year-old had her 1-year-old son in the car with her when she said a man came out of the woods and stabbed her as she sat in the driver’s seat.
He came around the side of the car from behind,” she said. “He did this motion like this, and as soon as I saw it, I threw my arm up because it was level with my neck, and it went right into my arm.”
Carroll said she had pulled off State Highway 174 near Odenville to adjust her GPS. Her driver’s side window was down, and her toddler son was in the back seat.
Her arm is stitched up now, but her car is still stained with blood from the attack.
“There’s blood everywhere,” she said. “It was all over the car, all over me. My clothes were soaked. Very tough situation. I bawled the whole way home because my son saw that.”
She said the man tried to stab her a second time, but she grabbed his hand and sped away.
“He was very deranged,” she added. “He didn’t want to steal my car. He didn’t say a word. He just wanted to kill somebody. He had doctor gloves on, like blue surgical gloves, when he stabbed me. So, this was, like. He was, like, premeditated.”
Carroll believes that if she hadn’t raised her arm, he would have stabbed her in the neck, which could have been fatal.
She reported the attack to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating.
“Hopefully they catch this guy before he ends up really hurting somebody,” she said.
Carroll described the attacker as a white man in his 50s or 60s with long grayish-blond hair and a long beard. She believes he was wearing a dirty white T-shirt and jeans.
St. Clair County sheriff’s deputies said they cannot release any additional information because the case remains under investigation.
