Mobile hydration teams bring relief to Imperial County
BRAWLEY, Calif.- As temerature reach triple digits across Imperial Valley, several non-profits and their mobile unit have teamed up to help deliver water to those in need.
The mobile units have been out in Brawley, Calipatria, and El Centro handing out water, bandanas, and information about heat-related safety.
The effort is part of a broader response to extreme summer heat, with hydration stations and cooling centers across Imperial Valley.
“There’s a lot of people out here that need some water,” Brawley resident Kimberly Pietra said.
Comite Civico del Valle in Brawley is part of that effort, along with the Power Coalition.
Augustin Maritnez, the Environmental Outreach Supervisor at Comite Civico del Valle, spoke to KYMA about their work reaching the unhoused and the senior communities.
“During extreme heat right now we are supporting community members with a mobile hydration station and with a local hydration and cooling station,” Martinez said.
Martinez reminds people to drink plenty of water and limit outdoor activity.
