    MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KOCO) — Authorities say multiple cattle died after a rollover crash early Tuesday morning in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Tinker Air Force Base.

The incident caused westbound I-40 near the base in Midwest City to be closed for several hours Tuesday morning. The scene has since been cleared, and traffic is moving normally.

Authorities said 10 to 15 cattle were on the hauler when it overturned on the interstate.

“Of the five or six that are deceased, on top of the … we have about, at least one, maybe two, that are injured to the point where they can’t stand up on their own,” David Richardson with the Midwest City Fire Department said.

Authorities have since said 12 cattle were killed in the crash.

No one, including the driver of the trailer, was injured in the crash. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the crash.

    MANNING, Iowa (KCCI) — A traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be displayed in two Iowa towns this month, offering visitors a chance to honor and learn about those who served.

“The Wall That Heals” is a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The wall will be outside IKM-Manning High School from July 23 through July 26. There will also be a mobile education center with interactive exhibits.

It is free to the public and will be open for visits 24 hours a day.

The wall will be escorted to Manning, starting at Tri-Center School in Neola at 10 a.m. on July 21. It will travel to Manning using Highway 191, and people can ride or line the route to escort the wall.

The Wall That Heals is looking for volunteers to assist visitors and help tear down the exhibit.

The Wall That Heals will also be in Brooklyn, Iowa, from July 30 to Aug. 2. It will be displayed for free, 24 hours a day during that period, at the BGM High School football field.

    Johnson County, KANSAS (KSHB) — While fans come to Kansas City Stadium to watch the World Cup, 11 individuals with Down Syndrome Innovations are there to work. They’re part of the game day staff for each of Kansas City’s matches.

The group was hired by the Kansas City Chiefs just like every other stadium employee; they already work during every home Chiefs game. Their experience earned them the opportunity to work World Cup matches this summer.

“I was just ready to do it. I was born for every little thing that the DSI and the Chiefs do,” said Calvin Wager, DSI hospitality employee.

Wager has worked at Kansas City Stadium since 2022. At the hospitality welcome desk, he scans tickets and greets guests on the club level. He said the World Cup has given him something he doesn’t get during the NFL season — fans from every corner of the world.

“I want to welcome them,” Wager said. “I like watching how they are experiencing these games and how they are impacted.”

Amanda Myers, Down Syndrome Innovations employment services director, said the moment is bigger than football or soccer.

“Just to be on this world stage. It’s just great seeing everyone embraced for their cultures and backgrounds and different abilities, and I think it’s just bringing us all together. We’re so united in these moments,” Myers said.

Wager is ready to work the final World Cup match in Kansas City on July 11. After that, he’ll trade the World Cup atmosphere for a familiar one — welcoming the Chiefs back to their stadium.

    TULSA, Okla. (KJRH) — Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease disrupt how the brain processes information — including the ability to recognize dangerous heat.

In Oklahoma summers, that disconnect can be deadly.

Wandering is already a common behavior among people living with dementia. Jim Herlihy of the Oklahoma Alzheimer’s Association said someone who wanders may not realize they are in trouble, even when they desperately need help.

Karen Warlick, who cares for her husband with Alzheimer’s, experienced that fear firsthand when he left their home in the middle of the night.

“It was like 4 o’clock in the morning. And he had gotten up, gotten dressed, he went outside and fortunately someone driving by noticed him down the street walking so they called the police and the police came and I was thankful that he knew to say his name,” Warlick said.

Last month, that fear became reality for one Oklahoma family when a woman with dementia died after getting into a hot car.

The Oklahoma Alzheimer’s Association explains the disease blocks the warning signals the brain normally sends when a person is too hot or in danger. Their surroundings may be deadly, but their brain cannot process that information or act on it.

About 80% of families dealing with Alzheimer’s in Oklahoma are managing care at home. Neighbors and community members are encouraged to watch out for those around them.

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KSHB) — At any sporting event, it’s easy to find someone wearing the home team’s jersey, but during Kansas City’s World Cup watch parties in the Power and Light District, there’s a recognizable duo rallying fans behind Team USA.

Kameron Cox and Garrett Mason traded in modern clothes for something colonial, becoming a fixture at KC Live! watch parties as the United States advanced through the tournament.

The U.S. team’s World Cup run ended with a 4-1 loss Belgium Monday night in Seattle.

“We thought it’d just be hilarious to everybody if we just dressed up like George Washington,” Cox said.

The only thing standing in their way at time was a $50 budget for an outfit.

“Garret sent me an Amazon link and I was like, ‘You know what, I can spend 45 bucks to do this for the entire World Cup,”‘ Cox explained.

Mason said the reaction among fans at the World Cup parties has been better than either of them expected.

“It’s really such a simple outfit, but it’s funny, everyone just seems to enjoy it,” Mason said. “It just gets a laugh, a high five, it’s really all we’re looking for.”

Cox said the idea has only grown as the tournament has progressed. That includes drawing attention and even a free drink here and there.

“I think it’s gotten more and more popular as the World Cup goes on,” Cox said.

The look even caught the eye of Jason Kelce, who shouted out Cox on the New Heights podcast.

Cox was interviewed by CBS Sports and offered advice to Team USA.

“It was pretty surreal to say the least,” Cox said.

The two shared they’ve been surprised at how much attention they’ve received throughout the tournament.

“Definitely didn’t think it was gonna be like this,” Mason said.

For the two superfans, the outfits are more than a conversation starter — they’ve become a superstition.

“Once we wore it and kept winning, you kind of have to stick to the same shtick,” Mason said. “It’s 100% superstition.”

Cox said that heat stroke or win, “I am going to keep this on, but as soon as the game is over, the wig is coming off immediately and the jacket is coming off immediately.”

While the costumes started as gags, they it’s held greater significance to Team USA’s underdog mentality.

“The 2014 World Cup was in the round of 16 against Belgium,” Mason said. “It’s pretty fitting it comes back here, this game changes everything if we win.”

The United States run in the FIFA World Cup 26 is over after their 4-1 defeat Monday night to Belgium.

    TEXAS (KRIS) — New World screwworm was confirmed in Jim Hogg County last week, triggering a quarantine on livestock movement there. The infestation is still hundreds of miles from Nueces County, but at Horse House in Flour Bluff, owner January Goette says that distance doesn’t mean the threat doesn’t matter locally.

“I know Corpus isn’t known to be a huge equine or cattle city, but it does affect really all of us, even your outside dogs or cats,” Goette said.

Screwworm larvae feed on living flesh — not decaying tissue like a typical fly — which makes any open wound on an animal a target. Goette demonstrated how she prepares her horses to avoid getting bitten in the first place.

“This is how we have our horses dressed for summer to avoid the flies. We wanna make sure that we’re covering up the belly area. And it’s really important that with horses that they have their tails unbraided, because they actually use these as a fly swatter,” Goette said.

Goette says any warm-blooded animal is at risk, a concern that weighs heavily given the number of animals on her property.

“We do have about 20 horses on property. We have over 40 species here in our hobby farm alone, so we have quite a bit of animals over here that we have to pay attention to,” Goette said.

Her team already had a fly control protocol in place before screwworm became a widespread concern — and they are now leaning on it even harder.

“We do an outside Pyrethrin spray. It’s kind of like a fly spray, it’s safe for livestock and animals, so we do that. We do daily fly control on our horses, so every time we pull them out we make sure we spray them,” Goette said.

Her advice for pet owners across the area is straightforward.

“Just keep an eye on your animal, right? Just look at them. If they have any bumps, cuts, scrapes, let’s get those looked at. It’s as easy as hydrating them a little water, cleaning their wounds with Betadine, iodine, something that has some antibiotic properties to it,” Goette said.

While screwworm has not been confirmed in Nueces County, Goette encourages all pet owners to monitor their animals closely.
