UK joins Powerball, But Idaho ticket prices remain the same

BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) — Powerball players in the United Kingdom will soon be buying tickets for the same jackpot available in the United States, but Idaho Lottery officials say the change won’t affect ticket prices or odds for players in Idaho.

Beginning July 21, Powerball sales will launch through The UK National Lottery. UK players will be eligible to play for the same Powerball jackpot starting with the July 22 drawing.

The addition brings the total number of participating lotteries contributing to the Powerball jackpot to 49.

According to the Idaho Lottery, only a portion of each UK ticket sale will be added to the Powerball jackpot.

Non-jackpot prizes won in the United Kingdom will be paid by The UK National Lottery and will not use USD funds according to an official statement from the Idaho Lottery

For Idaho players, the game remains unchanged. Powerball tickets with Power Play will continue to cost $3, and the odds of winning will stay the same.

Lottery officials say the biggest difference could be larger jackpots that grow more quickly as more players contribute to the prize pool.

Powerball remains the Idaho Lottery’s most popular game. The Idaho Lottery says about 38% of Powerball sales contribute directly to its annual dividend for Idaho public schools and state-owned buildings.

Since 1992, Powerball sales have generated more than $393 million of the Idaho Lottery’s $1.348 billion contribution to schools and public buildings across the state.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 8:59 p.m. Mountain Time from the game’s draw studio in Florida.

As of Friday, the estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing stands at $457 million.

Tow truck pulls out vehicle at Binder Lake

JEFFESRON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Police Department required the help of a Missouri State Highway Patrol diving team on Friday after it encountered a “suspicious object” in Binder Lake.

Officers were called at 9:42 a.m. Friday to the 300 block of Binder Lake Road for a report of a “suspicious incident,” according to a press release from JCPD.

An ABC 17 News reporter saw 11 police vehicles, two trucks and a dive boat team. A tow truck was pulling a vehicle out of the water.

JCPD Curtis Finke told ABC 17 News at the scene that divers confirmed at 3:30 p.m. that there was a car in the water. Police believe the vehicle had been in the water “for quite some time.” Finke said it’s currently being labeled as a “suspicious incident” and there is no active criminal investigation.

Finke said right now, there’s no urgency or danger to the community. Law enforcement will look into the records of the car.

MSSG Amigo Airshow celebrates 11 graduates from Fly HigHER Girls STEAM Academy

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Friday, MountainStar Sports Group Amigo Airsho celebrated 11 graduates from its Fly HigHER Girls STEAM Academy. The program launched earlier this year with the goal of empowering students to explore careers in aviation, aerospace and leadership.

Students from the Young Women’s STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy and Young Women’s Leadership Academy took part in the program this year. They got to tour the El Paso International Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Control Tower, according to a news release.

“This career field needs more young women,” graduate Kamillah Mendoza said. “I feel like so many of the girls have such bright minds, and this field needs them.”

The cohort capped off the program with a graduation ceremony and received certificates celebrating their accomplishments.

Each participant also took a discovery flight after the ceremony — letting them look at the world from an aircraft cockpit.

“Air shows inspire people to dream, but our mission extends far beyond Airsho weekend,” Israel Castro, Vice President of STEAM for MSSG Amigo Airsho, said in a statement. “Through Fly HigHER, we’re helping young women see themselves not only as spectators, but as future pilots, engineers, innovators, and leaders.”

One of the graduates, Harlee Villalobos, earned the MSSG Amigo Airsho’s Skybound Scholarship.

Graduate Suryne Montoya told ABC-7 said the program gave her a thrilling experience.

“I feel really like I’m on like a high, almost like the adrenaline high. It was super cool,” Montoya said. “I mean, we’ve all flown in a regular airplane before, but being able to sit there and be able to see what the pilot is doing — it was just super thrilling.”

She also said the program taught her that anyone can fly a plane if they set out to do it.

Outside of hands-on skills, participants did sessions on curiosity, self-advocacy and confidence, MSSG said.

James Talarico to stop in El Paso for US Senate campaign

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Texas democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico will stop in El Paso this weekend as part of his campaign for the November election. A town hall featuring the candidate will take place Saturday.

His campaign organizers said his community town hall will take place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Plaza Theatre in Downtown El Paso.

Talarico’s stop in El Paso is one of several planned in South Texas this month.

In November, he will face Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for the U.S. Senate seat.

Fulton Police Chief Bill Ladwig to retire next month

Fulton Police Chief Bill Ladwig is retiring.

The City of Fulton made the announcement in a Friday press release. Ladwig will end his 26-year career on Aug. 3.

The city has completed “an internal interview process” for its next police chief, though the appointment will be announced at a later date, the release says.

Ladwig joined the Fulton Police Department in 2000 and served as chief of police for the past five years, the release says.

“Throughout his tenure, he has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to public safety, professional leadership, and community engagement, helping guide the department through periods of growth and change while maintaining its mission of serving the community with integrity and professionalism,” the city wrote.

YCSO investigates two vehicle burglaries in Mesa del Sol

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) – The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) says they are investigating two vehicles burglaries in the Mesa del Sol area.

YCSO says they responded to reports of the two burglaries, which happened this week, and says they remain under investigation.

During the investigation, YCSO says the vehicles were left unlocked and items inside them were stolen.

YCSO is reminding Yuma County residents to always lock their vehicles as well as to not leave any items inside, or been seen through the windows.

“Burglars often target vehicles that present an easy opportunity,” YCSO says.

A News 11 viewer also reached out to us sharing that someone tried to break into his vehicle on the same night. The attempt was captured on camera.

Federal disaster aid approved for Ruidoso generators, New Mexico debris removal

RUIDOSO, N.M. (KVIA) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved more than $144 million to help communities rebuild and protect infrastructure from future disasters. Friday, Department of Homeland Security said the Village of Ruidoso will get some of that aid.

Ruidoso will get more than $770,000 for generators for critical facilities in the village, DHS said in a news release. This money comes from the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

FEMA coordinates with the state on all recovery and Hazard mitigation projects, according to DHS.

Additionally, New Mexico’s DHS and Emergency Management will get more than $1.1 million to remove debris after wildfires, floods, mudflows and straight-line winds from 2022. This money comes from the Public Assistance program.

Other aid will go to parts of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.

Alleged ‘imposter’ nurse arrested under fraud warrants

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — A woman accused of posing as a nurse and working without a license has been arrested in El Paso Thursday, according to jail records. Forty-three-year-old Margarita Gonzalez’ arrest comes after a Doña Ana County jury indicted her in May.

Jail records said the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested her under several warrants for fraud charges — including for health care and possessing someone else’s identifying information. Records said the offenses reportedly took place between January 2023 and July 2025.

Her bond totaled $130,000. Jail records said some of the charges she faced didn’t have bond.

In May, New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez charged Gonzalez with 34 counts of misconduct for allegedly impersonating nurses in Texas to get a job in Las Cruces. If convicted, she faces up to 100 years in prison.

The New Mexico Department of Justice alleged she administered narcotics to minors and nearly caused a patient’s death.

According to a NMDOJ investigation, Gonzalez illegally administered injections and prescribed medicine, including narcotics to eight children.

The investigation also alleged she incorrectly dosed a patient with insulin, which could have caused a serious incident or death, NMDOJ said. Another nurse caught the mistake before the patient got the dose.

NMDOJ said Gonzalez worked at the following places, which all paid compensation based on the fraudulent licenses:

Las Cruces Wellness and Rehabilitation

Peak Behavioral Health

Matrix Home Care

In October 2025, the Texas Board of Nursing issued an imposter alert accusing Gonzalez of posing as a nurse.

Hwy 101 Pavement Preservation Project Through Santa Maria to Begin July 12th

Below is a press release from CalTrans regarding a construction project that will cause lane reductions and ramp closures in the city of Santa Maria.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – Construction crews will begin a pavement preservation project along Highway 101 through Santa Maria beginning overnight Sunday, July 12.

Travelers on Highway 101 through Santa Maria will encounter lane reductions and ramp closures heading both northbound and southbound from just north of the Betteravia Road Overcrossing to the Santa Maria River Bridge.

Work will take place overnight Sunday from 9pm to 6am and Monday through Thursday from 7 pm to 6 am in areas near Stowell Road, Main Street, Donovan Road, and the Highway 135/Broadway interchange.

Message and directional signs will alert drivers of any closures. Travelers are advised to plan accordingly and anticipate possible delays of up to 10 minutes.

The purpose of the project is to preserve the existing pavement surface, improve lane delineation/visibility, improve signage, and provide a refreshed roadway surface for the traveling public.

This project is expected to be completed by end of September 2026. The contractor for this approximately $1.6 million project is Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc. of Watsonville, CA.

Firefighters knock down hidden wall fire at Teton County condos; No injuries reported

JACKSON, Wyo (KIFI) — A condo complex in Teton County, Wyoming, is still standing today after a structure fire broke out in a wall early Friday morning, July 10th. Fortunately, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS says a passerby spotted smoke coming from the building’s roof and quickly alerted first responders.

The Teton County Sheriff’s Office received the initial report of smoke along the building’s roofline at 7:52 a.m. Jackson Hole Fire/EMS crews arrived on the scene nine minutes later at 8:01 a.m and spotted the smoke, but could not find the source.

As more first responders arrived on the scene, the crews began investigating the source of the smoke and quickly found fire in a wall and the roof.

Firefighters immediately attacked the blaze while additional first responders evacuated the building. To assist the ground crews, sheriff’s deputies brought in a thermal imaging drone, helping firefighters pinpoint hidden hot spots within the structure.

Within the hour, firefighters successfully halted the fire’s progression and extinguished the blaze without any injuries.

“The fact that a bystander observed the smoke and called 911 immediately allowed firefighters to arrive quickly and keep the fire from spreading to other units in the building,” said Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Matt Redwine.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation by JHF/EMS Fire Marshal and Deputy Fire Chief Raymond Lane.
