Stocks Recover, Amazon Surges, Jobs Data Ahead

Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: Wall Street rebounded Thursday after stronger-than-expected Microsoft earnings lifted technology stocks. The S&P 500 gained 1.7%, the Nasdaq jumped 2.8%, and the Dow added 1.2%, recovering much of the ground lost in Wednesday’s selloff. Treasury yields held steady following the day’s inflation data, while oil prices pulled back after this week’s sharp rally.
Amazon shares jumped in after-hours trading Thursday after the company beat earnings expectations on strong AWS growth and upbeat guidance. Apple shares slipped despite topping estimates, as investors focused on weaker-than-expected services revenue and supply chain concerns.
Today’s Focus: The Employment Cost Index, a key gauge the Fed watches for wage inflation, comes out at 8:30 a.m. ET this morning. We’ll also get the final July consumer sentiment reading from the University of Michigan, offering a preview of consumer mood before next week’s big jobs report.
Exxon reported second-quarter earnings of $14.5 billion, or $3.48 per share ($3.52 adjusted), while Chevron beat forecasts with $12.1 billion in earnings, or $6.06 adjusted per share, its best quarter since 2022 as higher oil prices boosted results
