Boone County to temporarily pause 911 texting during system upgrade

Boone County Joint Communications will pause its text-to-911 function for about a month as it transitions to the Next Generation 911 system, according to a Friday press release from the county.
The release says text-to-911 will be paused on Aug. 5 and will be restored on Sept. 1.
Voice calls will not be affected, the release says.
Anyone who texts 911 during that period will receive an automatic response telling them to call instead, the release says.
The release says the new network “will provide a more reliable and resilient 911 network while supporting future Next Generation 911 capabilities.”
