Award-Winning Wolf Researchers Bring Conservation Message to Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) — A sold-out presentation at the Lobero Theatre gave Santa Barbara audiences a rare opportunity to hear from two of the world’s best-known wolf researchers, but organizers hope the message reaches far beyond those who attended.
Award-winning wildlife filmmakers Jim and Jamie Dutcher spent six years living alongside a wild wolf pack in Idaho, documenting behaviors few people have witnessed firsthand. Their experiences led them to create Living with Wolves, a non-profit focused on education, research and promoting coexistence between wolves and humans.
The program came to Santa Barbara through a partnership between Living with Wolves and the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.
The Dutchers explained that wolves are highly social animals that live in family groups, care for their young and play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Luke Swetland, President and CEO of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History & Sea Center, said the partnership reflects the museum’s mission to help people better understand the natural world and the connections that keep ecosystems in balance.
Although every ticket was claimed before the presentation, organizers hope the conversation continues throughout the community, encouraging a deeper understanding of wolves and their place in nature.
