SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) –  A special traveling exhibit with displays and video about the American Revolution is at the main Santa Barbara Library this week.

The American Revolution Experience is an outreach effort to bring a more personal side to this time period in American history.

The exhibit was created by the American Battlefield Trust and the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution are serving as docents.

It’s located inside the library on the first floor by the large fireplace.

The exhibit helps those who are looking for more details on the people in the American Revolution including soldier, wives, children, slaves and representatives from different countries in the original colonies.

Jane Frederick is the Santa Barbara Chapter President with the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was at the library with DAR members dressed in period outfits, interacting with the public and answering questions.

The made a request for this exhibit 18 months ago. It is one of four traveling through the United States right now.

“This exhibit is trying to highlight the diversity of elements and people who contributed to the revolution because without them it would not have succeeded,” said Frederick. “What we would like to do certainly is introduce ourselves as aligned with this particular understanding of the revolution and the movement itself. It was very diverse.”

This exhibit has short stories and personal accounts from historical figures you may have learned about and those who played key roles in other significant ways.

The exhibit will be on display until Friday at closing in the library.
