Washington (Quincy News) — Market Recap: Wednesday continued the market’s two-day rally, boosted by strong earnings reports at the start of the week and cooled inflation. Tech stocks steadied after unease in the AI market rattled last week. Treasury yields on 10-year notes moved lower Wednesday on news of cooling inflation in June. The Dow climbed 0.29% (150.37 points), the Nasdaq was up 0.62% (162.22), and the S&P was up 0.38% (28.81).
Today’s Focus: June retail sales and weekly jobless claims data hit at 8:30 a.m. ET, offering a fresh read on consumer spending and the labor market. For consumers, retail sales show whether cooling inflation is actually freeing up room in household budgets or whether people are still pulling back on spending.
Earnings are the other big story: Taiwan Semiconductor, UnitedHealthcare, GE Aerospace, Netflix, and Alcoa all report, with UnitedHealthcare’s results offering insight into health care costs. Iran and energy prices remain an x-factor, with little expectation of a return to pre-war shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a continued risk to gas prices at the pump.
